Masters

(over 35s)

Ye olde crabs

The Pulteney Old Scholars masters team plays in the official FFSA sanctioned South Australian Master’s Soccer League (SAMSL). Players are at least 35 years of age and come from very diverse backgrounds, some played at Senior Collegiate level for Pulteney, but many others have come across from Federation and Amateur League teams, or even overseas clubs!

Training is encouraged yet optional and in 2024 will take place at Stadia D’Crab on Wednesday nights (6:30–8pm) and occasionally on a Sunday morning when there is no game.

SAMSL

There are 2 divisions in the SAMSL and we have one team in each division—so we can cater to all abilities and fitness levels! After-game beers are always shared and although we play to win, the team never takes the competition results too seriously. All matches are played at Barratt Reserve, West Beach on Sunday mornings. Kick off times alternate between 9:30am and 11:15am.

Fixtures, results and ladders are available on the SAMSL web page on Dribl.

Why play Masters?

Masters football is really about staying healthy—both mentally and physically. For many of our players, football is part of their identity, having played since early childhood. Often in middle age, men give up playing football to concentrate on family, career or life’s many other important daily challenges.

As well as providing a platform to keep middle-age spread at bay, Masters football gives our players a solid social network and the ability to maintain or reconnect with their sense of identity as a team player and footballer.

New players welcome

Compared to our younger counterparts, masters players spend a lot of time travelling, either for work or pleasure—so we have a nice big squad to ensure we always have a full team. The SAMSL allows us to play up to two guest players per week. Guest players (non-registered) must still be 35 years old or over. A guest can play up to 3 matches before registering to play each week.

Season 2024

In season 2024 the Crabs are planning to expand our huge squad into two Over 35s teams. The idea is to have a team in Div 2 and a second team in Div3. So if you’re over 35 thinking about playing on, we want to hear from you!
