Purpose

The purpose of a football game is ‘play to win’, but the purpose of the sport is far greater than that. The sport is about health and wellbeing—physical, mental and emotional health. You only need to watch Ted Lasso to understand “football is life”!

The sport of football is about leaders helping those with less experience to learn and improve. And it’s also about leaders learning and growing as leaders themselves. We are all in some way both students and teachers.

The Crabs Champions League is a platform our club provides to:

  • keep players of all levels connected to the club and to each-other

  • welcome new players during the off-season, and therefore all year round

  • enable leaders to help less experienced players improve their game, and their wellbeing

  • keep players fit and healthy in the off-season

  • give players a fun way to enjoy balmy Wednesday evenings over the summer.

We of course play to win, but it’s not a ‘win at any cost’ competition. If that is your goal, then you will need to change that mindset, or unfortunately this league is not for you. If you’re here to learn, grow, support other players and have fun…welcome aboard!

Season 2024–25

After a hugely successful third season, the Crab Champions League is back for another summer.

What’s better than a kick around in the parklands on a warm summer’s evening followed by an ice cold drink and catch up?

Our summer league is an open competition to people of all abilities and most ages—it is not really suitable for anyone still considered a Junior (i.e. under 16s and below). We have both men and women playing. Invite your friends and former teammates, everyone is welcome.
